Compassion, Collaboration & Community Solutions

Our Mission

Serving Unhoused Individuals and Families in Northwest Arkansas (NWA)

At DiVa & DuDe,  Our mission is to provide hope through access to services and resources: empowering individuals & families people to achieve their full potential and improve their quality of life.

Our History ~ Our Future

Our History

Founded by Dr. Carla Smith Thompson in July 1985, our organization started from her one-bedroom apartment. Since then, we have expanded across multiple states, always adhering to our core values of compassion, dignity, and respect.

The organization has grown to include training and educational opportunities. Dr. Thompson believes that encouragement, education, and edification lead to empowerment.

As DiVA & DuDe Community Outreach/Training Center transitions under new leadership, she is eager to see the future developments stemming from her dedication to helping communities in need.

Our Future

Introducing the New Executive Director:

Carl C. Smith, II is originally from Oklahoma and has experience serving in the military, the United States Postal Service, and as an associate pastor.

With this new chapter, the organization is poised to expand its reach and deepen its impact throughout Northwest Arkansas and beyond. Drawing upon a legacy of service and an unwavering commitment to equity, the leadership team is focused on building robust collaborations with local agencies, faith communities, and businesses to address evolving needs. Emphasis will be placed on developing tailored training programs, fostering leadership opportunities for individuals with lived experience, and advocating for systemic changes that dismantle barriers to housing and well-being. As the vision continues to evolve, the organization's work will remain grounded in the belief that sustainable change is rooted in trust, inclusivity, and the shared determination to ensure that every individual has the resources and support necessary to thrive.
